Theatre and dance are performing arts typically staged for live audiences, while photographs are living memories of the splendour created on the stage by artists as a collective, contributing from varied disciplines. Actors portrayed in well structured plays as distinctive characters ; dancers frozen in frames, their poetic movements captured in memory; the stage lit with mesmerising lights. These photographs, of a diverse range of drama and dance performances give life to what was then a momentary performance, by extending it in time for the viewer to relish. This exhibit portrays actions as seen through the lens, hoping to reignite one’s passion to witness the performances all over again.
This exhibition is patronaged by Maharashtra Cultural Centre under its project ‘Urja’. We thank the performers and directors/Production Houses for permitting Sugat to take these photographs. Every frame is the result of the perfect collaboration between the artists involved.
